Field notes
- Jupiter is 2.5 times the mass of every other planet combined — yet still only one-thousandth the mass of the Sun.
- The Great Red Spot is a storm wider than Earth that has raged for at least 190 years. It is slowly shrinking, and no one knows when it will die.
- It has the shortest day of any planet — under 10 hours — spinning so fast it visibly bulges, 7% wider at the equator than pole to pole.
- Its magnetosphere is the largest single structure in the solar system. If it glowed, it would look several times wider than the full Moon in our sky.
